Currently the Associate Librarian for Ensembles and Performing Rights at St. Olaf College in Northfield, MN (https://www.stolaf.edu/profile/kleftis), Courtney devotes most of her spare time to taking classes online for her MLIS from the University of Alabama with a dual emphasis on academic librarianship and social justice. She is heavily influenced by feminist pedagogical approaches and the burgeoning critical librarianship movement. In her own teaching and reference experience, both past and future, she strives to embody bell hooks’ call to “teach to the soul”* of her students and finds music to be an especially potent medium for this endeavor. Outside of work and library school, she looks forward to revisiting her own musicological research interests in a wide range of topics; most recently centering on the nascent, underground Indie Opera movement and its provocative reclaiming of this art form by and for a non-elite and alternative public. Finally, she daydreams about the day (likely once she’s retired) in which she will finally have time to complete her novel about reclaiming and queering the divine feminine through the lens of characters inspired by figures such as Mary Magdalene and nun polemicist extraordinaire, Arcangela Tarabotti.
